The Melba theater was originally constructed as a mercantile store. It was eventually remodeled in Art deco style and reopened in 1940 to become one of Arkansas' first cinemascope theaters. Though the theater closed in the early 1990s, repairs and alterations were made and it reopened in 2000.
In 2015, just before the theater had to close its doors again, it was purchased with the goal of renewing this historic treasure. The downtown Main Street business district, which includes the Melba Theater, is included in the National Register of Historic Places.
This very large Coca-Cola Ghost Sign is located on the southwestern facade of the Case Building located at 101 E Main Street. The sign itself appears to have been painted a couple of times - once with the slogan "Relieves Fatigue" and then again with the slogan "Delicious and Refreshing". This sign is a definite landmark on the northeast corner of Main and Central.
A ghost sign is an old hand-painted advertising sign that has been preserved on a building for an extended period of time. The sign may be kept for its nostalgic appeal, or simply indifference by the owner. Thank God for indifference!.
